We will assess any areas of concern related to pregnancy and childbirth. This may include, but is not limited to, pelvic girdle pain, lower back pain, hip pain, upper back pain, or neck pain.
If you are experiencing multiple areas of discomfort, we will prioritise the assessment based on your symptoms and the time available, ensuring the most relevant concerns are addressed first.
-
This involves an internal vaginal examination, which allows us to assess how your pelvic floor is functioning following childbirth. Through this assessment, we can evaluate the strength and tone of your pelvic floor muscles, which play an important role in bladder and bowel function, as well as certain pelvic pain conditions. We can also check for any signs of prolapse that may require further management.
This examination is only carried out with your full consent. If you would prefer not to have this done during your appointment, that is completely fine and we can adjust the session accordingly.
-
After pregnancy, it is common to develop a diastasis recti, which is a separation of the Rectus Abdominis muscles. This can affect core function, breathing, and pelvic floor support.
We will assess for this to determine whether there is a separation present and whether it would benefit from targeted rehabilitation to support optimal recovery and function.
-
If you have had a caesarean section, we will assess how your scar is healing, including its mobility and function. We will also consider how this may be affecting other aspects of your recovery, such as your breathing and pelvic floor function, to ensure a holistic approach to your rehabilitation.
-
Pregnancy and childbirth can have a significant impact on breathing patterns, which in turn can influence other aspects of the body. This includes pain levels, pelvic floor function, and recovery following a caesarean section scar.
We will take this into account as part of a holistic assessment to better understand how these systems are working together.
-
Following a thorough assessment, we will discuss the findings together and identify any areas that may benefit from further treatment or additional assessment. At the beginning of your appointment, you'll always be asked if there is a particular concern or goal you'd like to focus on. Depending on your symptoms and priorities, we may spend more time exploring one area than another to ensure your appointment is tailored to your individual needs.
If there are several contributing factors to your symptoms, we'll work together to prioritise them based on your goals and develop a personalised treatment plan.
Following your initial appointment, you may be advised to book a follow-up appointment to review your progress and continue your rehabilitation. The timing of your follow-up will depend on your assessment findings and individual needs, but is typically recommended between 2 and 6 weeks after your initial consultation. Follow-up appointments are 45 minutes and cost £60.
If you decide not to book a follow-up appointment, you will still receive personalised advice and recommendations based on your assessment.
After your appointment, you'll receive a detailed report via email summarising your assessment findings, treatment recommendations, and a personalised rehabilitation plan to support your ongoing recovery and help you achieve your goals.
