WHEN TO BOOK

From 6 weeks to 6 months after birth.

This review is designed to be booked from around 6 weeks postpartum. This allows time for the early stages of natural recovery and for postnatal bleeding to settle before a more detailed assessment.

If you are already 6 months or more postpartum, there is a separate Post-Partum Review designed specifically for the later stages of recovery.

AT A GLANCE

What your review may include.

01

A detailed discussion about your recovery, symptoms, lifestyle and individual goals.

02

Pelvic floor assessment, including an internal vaginal examination with your consent where clinically appropriate.

03

Assessment of abdominal separation, breathing mechanics and musculoskeletal factors relevant to pregnancy and birth.

04

Caesarean scar assessment where applicable.

05

Personalised rehabilitation and advice to support recovery and return to everyday activity or exercise.

06

A clear summary of findings and recommendations following your appointment.

01

MOVEMENT & COMFORT

Musculoskeletal Assessment

Pregnancy and childbirth can affect the way your body moves and loads. We may assess areas such as the pelvis, lower back, hips, upper back or neck depending on your symptoms.

If you have more than one area of discomfort, the assessment will be prioritised around the symptoms having the biggest impact on you.

02

PELVIC FLOOR RECOVERY

Pelvic Floor Check

Where appropriate, an internal vaginal assessment may be offered to understand how your pelvic floor is functioning after childbirth.

This can help assess strength, tone and coordination and may also provide useful information where there are bladder or bowel symptoms, pelvic pain or signs of prolapse.

This assessment is only carried out with your full consent. If you would prefer not to have an internal examination, the session can still be adapted around your needs.

03

ABDOMINAL WALL

Abdominal Separation Check

After pregnancy, some women develop a separation of the abdominal muscles known as diastasis recti.

We can assess the abdominal wall and consider how it is functioning alongside your breathing, movement and pelvic floor, then advise whether targeted rehabilitation may be helpful.

04

CAESAREAN RECOVERY

C-Section Scar Check

If you have had a caesarean birth, we can assess how your scar is healing, including its mobility and how it feels during movement.

We can also consider how the scar may be influencing abdominal movement, breathing or pelvic floor function so that rehabilitation addresses the wider picture.

05

BREATHING & CORE

Breathing Mechanics

Pregnancy and childbirth can influence breathing patterns, rib movement, abdominal function and pressure management through the trunk.

Where relevant, we may look at how your diaphragm, ribs, abdominal wall and pelvic floor are working together to support recovery and movement.

AFTER YOUR REVIEW

What happens next?

At the end of your appointment, we will discuss the findings and agree the areas that are most useful to focus on moving forward.

If several factors are contributing to your symptoms, your rehabilitation can be prioritised around your goals and the issues having the greatest impact on you.

A follow-up may be recommended depending on your assessment findings and individual needs. If so, this is typically arranged between 2 and 6 weeks after your review.

FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS 45 minutes · £60

You will also receive personalised advice and recommendations following your assessment to support your ongoing recovery.

YOUR SUMMARY

Clear guidance to take away.

Following your appointment, you will receive a detailed report by email summarising your assessment findings, treatment recommendations and personalised rehabilitation plan.
